Dr. Orville M. Disdier, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics, was a keynote speaker at the first BanCoop Executive Forum. The event, hosted by the Banco Cooperativo de Puerto Rico under the theme “Beyond Change: Perspectives for Anticipating and Leading in a Transforming Environment,” brought together over 160 leaders from Puerto Rico’s cooperative sector, including board members, CEOs, and special guests. Under the theme “Puerto Rico’s Demographic Context,” Dr. Disdier presented a talk titled “The Cooperative Member of the Future, Today: Data, Decisions, and Systemic Impact.” “The future of Puerto Rico is not set in stone, but is written in the data we hold in our hands today. Let us use that information to become the cooperative leaders Puerto Rico will need tomorrow, starting right now,” Disdier noted at the conclusion of his presentation. Informe Estadístico a la Gobernadora - Comercio Exterior año fiscal 2026

El Informe Estadístico a la Gobernadora es una iniciativa del Instituto de Estadísticas de Puerto Rico dirigida a presentar análisis estadísticos sobre temas de relevancia para Puerto Rico. A través de estos informes se examinan datos e indicadores desde diferentes contextos, disciplinas y áreas temáticas, con el propósito de aportar información objetiva y fundamentada para comprender asuntos de interés público.

Cada edición aborda una temática particular mediante el análisis, la integración y la interpretación de distintas fuentes de datos. Esta iniciativa busca fortalecer el uso de las estadísticas como herramienta para la toma de decisiones, la formulación de política pública y el análisis de la realidad económica y social de Puerto Rico.

Para esta edición, se desarrolló sobre la temática de comercio exterior - año fiscal 2026. A continuación algunas estadísticas destacadas del informe:

Durante el año fiscal 2026, Puerto Rico registró un superávit comercial de $6,775,075,992. Un incremento del 55.61 % en comparación con el superávit obtenido en el año fiscal 2025, que fue de $4,353,983,618.

Exportaciones e Importaciones Totales año fiscal 2026:

  • Exportaciones totales: $59,706,839,226.
  • Importaciones totales: $52,931,763,234.

Reducción en Ambos Flujos de Intercambio:

  • En relación con el año fiscal 2025, se observa una contracción en ambos flujos:
    • Exportaciones disminuyeron en $975,638,196 (reducción del 1.61 %).
    • Importaciones disminuyeron en $3,396,730,570 (reducción del 6.03 %).
    • La caída en las importaciones respecto a las exportaciones provocó la ampliación del superávit comercial.

Exportaciones del Código HTS 2106: Preparación de Alimentos.

  • Exportaciones bajo esta clasificación, relacionadas a siropes, concentrados y bases de sabor mostraron un incremento reciente.
  • Específicamente, el código 2106906773: Preparaciones Alimenticias alcanzó un máximo de $815.71M en julio de 2025.
  • Fue el segundo bien más exportado hacia los Estados Unidos en el año fiscal 2026.

Principales Socios Comerciales:

  • El comercio exterior sigue estando altamente concentrado en mercados específicos:
    • Destinos de Exportación: Estados Unidos 80.0 % del valor total ($47,785.30M), seguido por Bélgica (3.2 %), España (3.2 %), Países Bajos (3.1 %) y Brasil (1.5 %).
    • Destinos de Exportación: Estados Unidos 80.0 % del valor total ($47,785.30M), seguido por Bélgica (3.2 %), España (3.2 %), Países Bajos (3.1 %) y Brasil (1.5 %).
    • Origenes de Importación: Estados Unidos lidera con el 69.6 % ($36,822.56M), seguido por Irlanda (4.1 %), Singapur (2.5 %), México (2.0 %) y Canadá (1.6 %).

Relación Comercial con China:

  • Importaciones: Se importó de China un total de $72.54M en aires acondicionados, pero perdió el liderato frente a EE.UU. en el año fiscal 2026.
  • Exportaciones: Puerto Rico envió a China principalmente medicamentos dosificados (HTS 3004) valorado en $246.91M
  • Históricamente, EE.UU. domina ampliamente sobre China en el suministro de generadores y paneles fotovoltaicos.

Chronic Disease Day

To mark Chronic Disease Day, a proclamation was presented recognizing this date and highlighting the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and the proper management of these conditions.

Chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer, are among the leading causes of illness, which is why adopting healthy habits and getting preventive screenings can make a difference.

Let’s continue to promote education and awareness to help improve the quality of life for those living with chronic diseases.
