This report calculated the prevalence at birth for the period 2004-2008, 2007-2008 or only for the year 2008, of all congenital defects included in the Department of Health's Congenital Defects Surveillance and Prevention System, according to the year in which the defect was included. For those defects that have been monitored since 2003 or earlier, their trend was also graphed, based on annual prevalence at birth, from the year in which it was included to 2008. Then, the incidence rate for the period 2004-2009 was calculated for all the conditions monitored by Neonatal Metabolic Screening. Its trend was also graphed based on the annual incidence, from the year in which it was included to 2009.
