Description:

National database managed by the EPA's Landfill Methane Disclosure Program (LMOP). It provides detailed data in Excel format on municipal solid waste landfills and landfill gas (LFG) energy recovery projects, broken down by state and territory, including Puerto Rico.

Objective:

Monitor and promote landfill gas recovery as a renewable energy source to reduce methane (a potent greenhouse gas) emissions. It seeks to connect landfill operators with project developers and decision makers to promote environmental and economic benefits.

Main Variables

Number of total landfills by state, number of operational energy projects (LFG), candidate landfills for new projects, project status (planning, construction, operational or closed) and specific data for each facility (location, design, generation capacity).

Reference Population:

Municipal landfill operators, renewable energy developers, state environmental enforcement agencies, local governments and climate change specialists in the U.S. United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
