The Department of Education, through the secretary, is responsible for promoting and enabling the establishment of youth cooperatives to strengthen the development of students, entrepreneurs and, in turn, the economy of Puerto Rico. In order to support cooperative initiatives, the Social Studies Program and the Division of Coordination and Cooperative Education will ensure the continuity and permanence of cooperatives in the public education system. Because youth cooperativism effectively complements the academic program and curriculum, it is important to promote and support it through activities, workshops and collaborative efforts with entities that support cooperative management in Puerto Rico.
