Description:

Environmental monitoring platform that reports daily air quality levels in Puerto Rico through a network of atmospheric sampling stations. It uses the standardized Air Quality Index (AQI) to easily communicate the level of air purity or pollution and its associated health effects.

Objective:

Inform the public about current air quality conditions so they can take precautionary measures and protect their health, especially sensitive groups. In addition, it seeks to ensure compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) established by the EPA.

Main Variables
Concentration of pollutants criteria such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), ozone (O3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). It is reported in a color scale that ranges from “Good” (green) to “Dangerous” (brown).

Reference Population:
Residents and visitors of Puerto Rico, with special emphasis on vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly and people with respiratory (asthma, emphysema) or cardiovascular conditions.
