It provides statistics on the socio-demographic and economic characteristics of the population and on the characteristics of housing. Data from the Community Survey is available in the form of tables, profiles, narratives and databases. The Community Survey was created to replace the Decennial Census Long Form. Like the Long Form, the Community Survey collects information through a questionnaire that is mailed to a sample of households. In contrast to the Long Form, the Community Survey is conducted more frequently: annually, rather than once every 10 years. It includes statistics broken down by municipality, but for smaller municipalities the limited sample size requires the use of longer periods of time: specifically, (1) for municipalities with 65,000 inhabitants or more it provides annual estimates, (2) for municipalities with 20,000 inhabitants or more it offers three-year estimates (in periods of 3 years), (3) for other municipalities, it provides five-year estimates (in periods of 5 years). The three-year and five-year estimates are updated annually. Together with data from the United States Community Survey, it provides estimates of migration between Puerto Rico and the United States.
