Telephone survey for 2011 conducted using the Puerto Rico Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System methodology. People 18 years of age and older (adults) are interviewed and a minor is randomly selected to ask questions related to autism. The indicators are as follows: diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorder, age of diagnosis, severity of the disease, traditional therapies, alternative therapies, brother or sister with autism.
1) Estimate the prevalence of autism and autism spectrum disorders for boys and girls residing in Puerto Rico.
2) Identify the treatment that is most commonly used to treat this condition in boys and girls.
3) Identify the most commonly used alternative therapy for the treatment of this condition in boys and girls.
