Institute of Statistics facilitates workshop at professional journalism training series

On Friday, August 7, staff from the Institute of Statistics held a workshop as part of the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo professional training series. Focusing on how to identify data related to the Puerto Rican diaspora, Dr. Ronald Hernández Maldonado, Lanselotte Oliveras Vega and Alberto L. Velázquez Estrada shared information on available sources and tools. Specifically, the session covered topics such as census data sources and their differences, community vulnerability estimates, custom tabulations using the U.S. Census Bureau's MDAT tool, and the cost-of-living index and its calculator for metropolitan areas in Puerto Rico and the United States.

2010: Statistics Expo, celebrating World Statistics Day

On October 20, 2010, World Statistics Day was celebrated, as proposed by the United Nations Organization http://unstats.un.org/unsd/wsd/. In commemoration of this celebration, the Puerto Rico Statistics Institute held “Statistics Expo” at the Intercontinental Hotel. Hundreds of statisticians and people interested in statistics from the public, private, non-profit, academic and student sectors were present.

2015: Statistics Expo, celebrating World Statistics Day

To recognize the great contribution of statistics to the quality of life of all, the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics joins organizations around the world in celebrating World Statistics Day 2015. The objectives are:

  1. Highlight the contributions of statistics in the different areas of knowledge.
  2. Build an environment that brings together students, teachers, researchers, public employees, statisticians and other professionals who share a common interest in statistics.
  3. To publicize the functions and contributions of the Institute in the community.
