2010: Statistics Expo, celebrating World Statistics Day

On October 20, 2010, World Statistics Day was celebrated, as proposed by the United Nations Organization http://unstats.un.org/unsd/wsd/. In commemoration of this celebration, the Puerto Rico Statistics Institute held “Statistics Expo” at the Intercontinental Hotel. Hundreds of statisticians and people interested in statistics from the public, private, non-profit, academic and student sectors were present.

Puerto Rico Population Studies Conference

To commemorate the International Year of Statistics, the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics, the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey and its Institute for Interdisciplinary Research will hold the Puerto Rico Population Studies Conference. The objectives of the Conference are:

  1. Highlight the importance of population studies in the globalized world and examine the current state and challenges for Puerto Rico.
  2. Promote a meeting between professionals in this area and related disciplines to exchange knowledge, interests and perspectives in the field of population studies.
  3. Generate alliances between the academy, the private sector and the government sector to draw up a work agenda to address the demographic challenges faced by Puerto Rico in the 21st century.
