Virtual Workshop — Introduction to Geographic Information Systems with R

Description
This workshop is designed to provide participants with an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using the R programming language. During the session, participants will learn the basics of manipulating, visualizing and analyzing basic spatial data, focusing on how these techniques can support informed decision-making based on geography and demography. Throughout the workshop, practical examples and interactive exercises will be used to explore the potential of R in the field of GIS, allowing attendees to develop essential skills to effectively manage and analyze spatial data.
Objectives
· Familiarize participants with the basic concepts of GIS and their application in urban planning, epidemiology and demography.
· Teach the management and manipulation of spatial data in R, including importing, exporting.
· Develop skills in visualizing spatial data, using R libraries such as ggplot2 and mapview to create thematic and interactive maps.
· Introduce participants to basic geoprocessing techniques in R.
